The Flight Series is made of paper airplanes. A piece of light-sensitive, unexposed photographic paper is folded into a paper airplane in a darkroom. Then the paper airplane is exposed very briefly to light. The paper is subsequently unfolded and processed through a series of photographic chemicals. Different tones result from the amount of light that was able to penetrate the folds of the paper when it was in its airplane form: The more light to which an area was exposed, the darker it is. Each piece is then selenium toned, dried, and pressed flat. Each one is signed and dated on the verso and is mounted, matted and framed in such a way that its folds belie its origins as an airplane. Each piece is a unique photographic object.
